Getting Moved
April 3, 2007 11:30amI took off work to move out on the 16th and 17th of March. The move took both days, in which an 8-hour trip to Illinois immediately followed for my Grandmother’s funeral. Slowly I’ve been unpacking and cleaning. I’m almost finished now, two weeks later, with only a few odds and ends to complete before I feel this move is done. I need to hang my projector screen (right now the HD projector is aimed at a blank white wall), and I need to get a pseudo door or curtain for the entrance to the bedroom to make up for the lack of a door. I’ll have some pictures soon.
While moving over here, it’s rained quite a bit in Wichita. I must have moved out just in time, because the ceiling finally started to collapse from the weight and damage of rain water. I’m still pretty mad that Leasing Plus and Total Management as well as the landlord were both aware that the roof needed to be completely replaced per an insurance adjuster’s recommendation months before we moved in. As the voicemail left on my cell phone from Vicki at Leasing Plus went, “the landlord had planned to replace the roof in November, but thought he would be selling the property so he held off.” I moved into the house in December. So when Vicki advised me that her attorney would have to be notified since I’m breaking my lease, I said I’m willing for this to get ugly. She then said her attorney said I should have given her a written notice of which they have 30 days to complete repairs to the property. I argued that such a written notice to inform them of the damage is moot since they were previously aware of the damages before I moved in. Also, Kim gave them written notice in December about a week after we moved in and had rain flood the kitchen. In retrospect, my written notice to move out shouldn’t have only demanded to be released of the lease, but I should have also asked to be reimbursed my rent as well as the cost of some of my utilities. Oh well - I turned the keys over yesterday morning. I’m a little anxious to see if they bother to follow up with me.
